The friction

Two problems at once: making complex Canadian science genuinely accessible to the public, and building a home for it that survives — outlasting web-trend churn, theme fashions, and platform decay over more than a decade.

Where the craft is

This one isn’t about AI — and that’s the point. The craft is durable content architecture and information design: a clear topical taxonomy plus category-driven layouts on a boring, maintainable WordPress core, so editors keep publishing without a rebuild. Longevity as a deliberate design choice.

Who it helps — Canadian researchers (visibility for publicly funded work), science communicators (a durable publishing home), and the general public (jargon-free explanations). Backed by U of T, Waterloo, UBC, and CIFAR.

What I built

  • A category-centric platform

Each topic renders its own layout from per-category settings, absorbing new subjects without structural change.

  • A child-theme discipline

Customizations isolated so the core can keep updating for a decade.

  • A publishing model that lasted

Standard, portable content with no exotic dependencies to rot.
